Science outreach: inspiring others to embrace the wonders of science!
Video with a nationally known YouTube channel
With the pandemic, we were unable to receive student visitors to our ant colonies. However, in collaboration with the YouTube channel "Manual do Mundo", we showcased a glimpse inside a leaf-cutting ant colony. Thankfully, even to this day, many students continue to come to us to see our ants and study them!
@ilumininsetos
@ilumininsetos is a science outreach Instagram page where I collaborated by providing cool and informative facts about insects and science through funny posts between 2020 and 2021. We also aimed to bring attention to important issues, such as gender equality in science (Women in STEM/"Mulheres na Ciência"). It was a way to continue doing science during the pandemic.
Talks and Workshops
To promote the dissemination of knowledge about ants and the significance of studying them, I delivered talks and conducted workshops. The interactive nature of the workshops allowed participants to actively engage in hands-on activities, fostering a deeper understanding of ant biology and maintanence techniques.
Logos
Visual identity facilitates connection and ownership with the source. That is why I believe it is essential for laboratories to have their own logos. With my design aspirations, I was fortunate enough to create logos for the laboratories I am involved in, including my dear friend Professor Manuela Ramalho's lab.
Schemes and maps
Schemes and maps are additional visual elements that I take pleasure in creating. To further enhance my proficiency in this domain, I plan to enroll in specialized courses to learn advanced techniques and refine my skills.
